Kenya Maasai Mara

We had a wonderful adventure that is hard to fault. Contact with Zebra Trails was good. It was also well organized in Kenya. It was nice to get a manual from our guide before we left. The manual is complete and is a good preparation. Our tour guide Joseph was fantastic. Flexible, team player, a lot of knowledge of everything that was relevant. Above and beyond. The trip was well organised. The last day is free in Nairobi, but that is absolutely no punishment. Because we drove a lot off-road, we saw a lot. Also parts that you normally don't come to so quickly. It was really an adventure. There were highlights every day. Masai Mara of course. The ride to Lake Vanaisha. The ride to Marigat. Lunch in small restaurants along the way. All in all a fantastic trip.

Contact with Zebra Trails was quick and personal. Good support when applying for an e-visa for Kenya. The manual that is sent in advance contributes to good preparation and fun in advance. I enjoyed every day and rode the motorcycle with a big smile. We had a very nice group of participants. The number of kilometers per day is challenging but very doable. It is a lot off-road with certainly some challenging parts in between if you have no experience. Fortunately, if you really don't feel safe, you have the option to take a detour via the asphalt or to let someone else drive your motorcycle in difficult parts. So accessible to everyone. Nice that we visited less or non-touristy places. We have had the most special encounters because of this. The whole trip was a highlight! From the craziness in Nairobi, the impressions of the culture (slums, Maasai villages, plantations and small villages), the off-road driving and the super friendly group. Lilian, the driver in the support car, is a tough woman with a huge heart. Speak good English and have a very pleasant personality. Knows how to maneuver the car through the most impassable roads. Brian the mechanic is a professional. We had some bad luck with the bikes and Brian was always there to fix it. Marco the tour guide knows Kenya and the locals very well. Knows a lot about the culture, the country and the journey. Can also quickly respond to changes that are necessary in the planning due to the weather or if we have some delays. I really had a great trip, thank you!

'I can only say that it was an incredibly cool adventure from the first moment. Even though I really felt like I was holding the whole group up at times. My courage was just a little different from the others. The roads were more challenging than I had expected. But it is a lot more adventurous and unique to discover Kenya this way. I found the group very social and everyone was there for each other. The relaxed atmosphere from Marco, Lilian (great driver) and Brian (the skilled mechanic) was great despite some challenges. The often non-touristy places we visited were fantastic. I found the visit to the slum in Nairobi with Sharon and her family very impressive and also the breathtaking and very varied nature, views and tea plantations that were continued by the off-road roads with elephants, giraffes, zebras and jumping baboons. The daily kilometers are tough, especially when unexpected challenges arise, but they were tackled and solved together. I look back on this wonderful Kenyan experience with an incredibly rich feeling.'

'If you have any questions, Zebra Trails is easy to reach and you will receive quick answers to all your questions. The tour in Kenya exceeded all my expectations and I really enjoyed it, the slum tour was very impressive. I thought the encounters with the locals along the way were wonderful and gave you a different view of the world. You imagine yourself through areas where they can't even spell tourism. The guidance along the way was top notch, a flat tire was easily fixed by Brian, a skilled mechanic who drove along. Marco the tour guide knows the population and Kenya well, this way you get in touch with the population and hear a lot about Kenya. Lilian the driver drove the support car with all our luggage, water and tools. This is the 2nd time I have gone with Zebra Trails, and I will not soon forget this trip. Thanks again!'

Contact was fine. The trip was very nice despite the weather. Guidance is fine. Highlights include slipping and sliding on the penultimate day through a very beautiful country. In my opinion, areas for improvement would be the engines (state of maintenance) and there were no overnight accommodations available, but that will be difficult in such a country.

The contact was good. The trip was very well organized. The tour guide and driver were great and the mechanic was also good but could still learn things. Highlights of the country and the beautiful views. The safari and not riding a motorcycle for a day were great because it was quite tough for me. I have no areas for improvement.

Very good contact with Zebra Trails, fast and complete answers and excellent information. The trip was better than expected, plenty of off-road, and sometimes very challenging rides! All aspects of Kenya were discussed, we thoroughly enjoyed every day. It was BEAUTIFUL, well organized and prepared! Occasionally some African situations, but that's part of it. Tour guide Ko was very good, he did not always have an easy time with such a large group, but he did a perfect job. Every day was a highlight...except the first day...a bit too much asphalt :-)”

“Contact was excellent, easily accessible. Personal and professional. Kenya is a beautiful country with very nice, open people. You can have a conversation in no time. The interest of the Kenyans is genuine. I thought it was a lot of hours on the bike. In addition, when off-road you have to keep your attention on the road. Tour guide Ko loves Africa. Has a lot of ready information and can talk about it well. What could be better is the instruction about the difficult parts in advance. On day 1 we drove unannounced up a difficult dirt path/hill. In such a case, a brief explanation and a small demo would significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Besides Ko we had Joseph and Lilian. Super nice, professional and committed people. The highlight was starting the Kibo every day and driving... Improvement points: incorporating more moments when you can really get to know Kenya. That doesn't have to be every day, but twice at the hotel at 3:30 p.m. and then time to explore something.”

“Contact was excellent. Information on the site is very complete. Had a great trip. I had no off-road experience. What I understood from the other travelers, who had made similar trips with you before, this trip was by far the toughest. Perhaps off-road experience is required. Ko was great! Calm. Has a different view on life than most participants in a number of matters. Which in any case provided enough conversation material and nice discussions without it becoming annoying. Notices that he is very experienced in the profession. The highlight was simply experiencing the trip with a big smile and coincidentally also having the luck of a pleasantly varied travel company. Since it was my first experience with such trips, I cannot compare, it seemed to me a good combination of asphalt, gravel and single tracks, although there could be more of the latter. Perhaps fewer kilometers per day so that there is more time to get to know the country. Tour guide Ko is very amiable and has a good handle on the group. He kept all agreements and looked for solutions for everyone. Perhaps accidents in the future can be avoided by providing clear instructions for difficult or dangerous passages. Joseph, Josuah and Liliane all added great value to the guidance of the group. A big thumbs up! During the safari in the Masai Mara park, we were very lucky to spot some rare animals. A welcome change and for me the highlight of the trip.”

"First of all, I would like to say that I had a great trip that for me was a perfect balance between riding a motorcycle, seeing things, contact with people, consultation in the group, freedom and being taken care of. I experienced the contact with motorcycle trails as pleasant. The trip was very cool; it is not a safari holiday, but an exploration through Kenya. It was really a journey, so it was long days with a lot of motoring hours. The motorcycling was also fun and challenging - not a high level off-road, but some experience was useful. It is not just a safari, but a real journey of discovery to the different (nature) places in Kenya and the people. Remco is a nice guy who looks for a good balance between the wishes of the different participants. He is clear, gives freedom but also clear frameworks with a reason why. And he arranged everything for/with us, including the PCR test for the return trip (what you also expect from an organized trip, but still). In short, he helped ensure that that it was a special and memorable trip. As far as I'm concerned, the journey is completely fine. All in all, I would (and have) recommended others to take this trip too!”

"contact was excellent. Always responded to emails within 24 hours. And I called once and was answered. That could hardly be better. The trip was great. I really have an experience richer and I have the feeling that I am in I only got a good impression of the country for a very short time. The variety of places we visited is pleasant and the day in the Masai Maara is a big plus! All in all it was not a cheap trip, but as far as I am concerned, worth every euro worth it. I find Remco a pleasant group leader. He knows how to connect the group and has an eye for individual attention that is sometimes necessary. In addition, he finds the right balance between conviviality, humor and flexibility on the one hand and organizational, steering and 'dominant' if necessary. The driving days were on the long side, so most people had run out of energy by the end of the week. In summary: I am a satisfied customer and will certainly travel via Zebra Trails more often in the future .Thanks for the experience!"

Note as per July 2020 route change start and departure from Nairobi "Kenya is a beautiful country and has a diverse landscape, fauna and flora. Types of accommodation are from fine to fanatastic. Point of improvement point, we were only with 4 participants that is a small group however it did not distrub me. The best thing is wildlife in Maasai Mara this was above and behind my expectations, you always have to be lucky and we were lucky! Jan the tourleader was great. Contact with the office was great. "

2019 route change start Nairobi - end Sawasawa beach "Fantastic extended tour, a succession of highlights: slept in magnificent places, hippos grazing at night in front of the tent, tent at Maasai Mara National Park 100 meters from where giraffes were grazing. Tour guide was service oriented and flexible. A magnificent tour, highly recommended!"
